THE SUB POP AIRPORT STORE (SEATTLE, WA)

Sub Pop SeaTacSub Pop is a record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman in Seattle, Washington.
Sub Pop achieved fame in the late 1980s for first signing Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney and many other bands from the Seattle music scene. They are often credited with taking the first steps toward popularizing grunge music, and have continued to achieve critical and commercial success in the new millennium, with bands such as Fleet Foxes, Foals, Beach House, The Postal Service, Flight of the Conchords, No Age, Wolf Parade and The Shins on their roster.

Sub Pop launches new retail concept store in Seattle Tacoma Airport (story here)

Sub Pop’s long-standing motto, “Spanning the Globe for Profit”, became more true than ever before this May as they opened the doors to a first-of-its-kind retail space in the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The Sub Pop Airport Store (working-title-turned-seemingly-actual-title) is a mix of the classic Sub Pop Mega Mart and a Pacific Northwest-centric gift shop. Sub Pop collaborated with designers, artists, and companies who also call the Pacific Northwest home and created a vast array of brand new Sub Pop and PNW-related wares currently available exclusively (for now) at the Sub Pop Airport Store.

Broadtime was honored when approached by Sub Pop to create an instore listening experience to match the whole ethos of their iconic brand and store.  We knew that Sub Pop's customers would be looking for an exciting, fun way to discover and further explore the fantastic selection of media at the store. Broadtime BPM stations provide the perfect platform to deliver that experience along with Sub Pop's marketing message. It has been an incredible opportunity to be part of this thrilling venture and we are proud that our BPM stations are now part of a new Seattle Landmark.

New Release Round-Up 06-02-14

Matisyahu might have the market cornered on his particular niche of expression, that of reggae-tinged high-polish hip-hop beats with lyrical inspiration stemming from his roots in Hasidic Judaism and its traditions. While themes of belief, retribution, and religious tropes come through from time to time on fifth album Akeda, spirituality takes somewhat of a back seat to Matisyahu's huge beats and reggae-pop basslines, though each song comes across in a wash of positive sentiments and philosophical musing.

Bob Mould's 2014 album Beauty & Ruin is a twelve-track journey of loss, reflection, conciliation, and coming through the other side. Much of Beauty & Ruin deals with the passing of Mould's father in October 2012, Bob's struggle to come to terms with it, himself, and his own identity and legacy, and repercussions of all of the above on his ongoing relationships in the land of the living. Beauty & Ruin is a challenging work of raw beauty and may well be Bob Mould's finest work since his 1989 solo debut, Workbook.

Rock legends Led Zeppelin launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order starting with Led ZeppelinLed Zeppelin II, & Led Zeppelin III and each being remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.  The albums are all available in various formats including Single Disc Remasters, Two Disc Deluxe, Remasterd LP and Super Deluxe packages.

Peter Murphy - LionIconic front man Peter Murphy spent most of 2013 celebrating 35 Years of Bauhaus on his Mr. Moonlight Tour, which saw him playing to sold-out shows around the world. In the midst of touring, Murphy also spent time recording the follow-up to 2011's solo album Ninth. The 2014 record, called Lion, was produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth. Murphy describes the Lion material as "a mixture of stuff, almost like operas for the dispossessed. Its' very romantic and very deep and emotional, quite symphonic in places, but then becomes, like, a rabble-rousing pirate sea shanty." The Album is available now and you can preview the album courtesy of the superb album trailer video.

Plus there are other great, new releases including The Modfather himself, Paul Weller, who releases More Modern Classics, a new anthology spanning 1999-2014 featuring 19 of his best solo tunes! And includes 2 new tracks 'Brand New Toy' & 'Flame-Out!'. The story of Disgraceland -- recorded in the fall of 2013 at studios in London, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Woodstock, NY -- is the story of The Orwells escaping the confines of their hometown and of their own expectations for themselves. Donker Mag is the third album from the South African Rap/Rave duo Die Antwoord. On their fourth album Glass Boys Toronto's Fucked Up pare things back to a single LP.  Only Run is the fourth studio album from Philadelphia-based Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, who are celebrating 10 years as a band this year.  Legendary Liverpool band Echo & the Bunnymen release their 12th studio album and first since 2009, Meteorites. And In 2014 we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Soundgarden's massive album Superunknown which to date has sold 9 million albums worldwide and is certified five times platinum by the RIAA in the US. Both a critical and commercial success, in 1994 Superunknown debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and earned the band two Grammys® for the singles 'Black Hole Sun' and 'Spoonman' in 1995.

Plus, Rich RobinsonTigers JawDave Alvin & Phil AlvinLPShoeKing BuzzoMorrisseyCamper Van BeethovenParquet CourtsFu ManchuBig SmoHarry Dean StantonAlice Cooper and 50 Cent all have new albums today.

CURRENT SINGLES

There are also a couple of singles available, including Brooklyn Indie Pop stalwarts The Pains of Being Pure at Heart who release the Vinyl Single of Simple & Sure taken from their recent album Days Of Abandon

EARLY LISTEN AND PREVIEW

Passenger - WhispersLooking ahead to next week's chart, We are excited to present an Early Listen for Mike Rosenberg, aka Passenger, highly anticipated new album Whispers, the follow up to 2012's All The Little Lights, which featured the international hit single and 3x Platinum "Let Her Go." Recorded in Sydney and co-produced by Chris Vallejo, Whispers is comprised of 11 tracks that tell tales some real, some imagined of love, death, growing up and getting old. A master of story telling, Passenger yet again strikes the perfect balance between the heartbreaking and the humorous, all wrapped in beautiful instrumentation, creating a sumptuous, symphonic sound. The album is available now for pre order and you can preview the tracks including the incredible lead single 'Scare Away The Dark' here.

For more information on these and other releases out this week, check out our New Releases charts by week section and don't forget that many of these titles are also available on vinyl.
