In Store and Online Music Marketing

June 21, 2018

It's a busy time this summer for Broadtime. We are hard at work on the entry level e-commerce site we are offering to stores around the country. This effort is meant to broaden the reach of the Indie Preorder Platform by engaging more stores. now has the preorders on the home page as well as all Broadtime sites featuring preorders alongside regular "out now" featured items. We are very pleased with the progress on getting early data and the amount of folks now linking the INDIE OPTION for Preorders. It benefits the entire ecosystem.

Preorders carry over to all of our mobile apps as well. I'm sure that everyone has downloaded our apps by now, yes? Please do, and enjoy using the barcode lookup feature with your phone and staying informed from your favorite indie retailers. Now you can get a notification when you happen to be NEARBY one of our stores. Geofences for our stores are a fun new feature for connecting with customers!

We would love to work with you on your release!

2. Preorders, Preorders, Preorders

We know Preorder setup is where the action is currently. All of our sites now support preorders on the following URL  https://[sitename].com/preorders

As mentioned in the introduction, is now also live with upcoming titles.

We have added a preorder widget to the top of our sites. Front and center.

Preorder Widget

As for Broadtime's strategy, we have created another category for our campaigns that are "preorder only" and we are adding additional weeks of support for releases on our regular campaigns. THIS MAKES OUR PROGRAMS LONGER! (6 weeks? 8 weeks?)

When your title is on our preorder radar, the release will go into our widely hosted "Upcoming Releases - Preorder" genre on all of the sites and stations and apps. (plus they rollover to "Featured Items" on street date) We will call attention to the releases with banner ads and with our news postings.

3. Latest APP & BPM Station developments

We believe very strongly that Mobile Apps represent a new frontier of marketing for the stores and connecting the record stores to their customer base in exciting new ways. By delivering a listening station to every customer's pocket we can then reach them with friendly messages to increase engagement. Our website customers with mobile apps enjoy mobile e-commerce supported by AEC fulfillment.

We are super proud to be working with the forward thinking CIMS stores and management to bring about powerful new marketing tools to that coalition. We respect and appreciate working so closely with them.

So we have been hard at work making new features or our BPM Mobile Store App and our BPM Stations. This includes a new wishlist function for the App where customers can add the records they are previewing and want to a WISHLIST. We NOW HAVE mobile commerce enabled for our apps.  If you haven't yet, please download one of our newest customer's app, Down In The Valley. (

4. NEW RELEASE ROUND UP - Courtesy of PLAN 9 MUSIC, Richmond, VA

Dawes - Passwords - Hub Records
On Dawes' sixth album, Passwords, inspiration pulls guitarist/ singer Taylor Goldsmith, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, bassist Wylie Gelber, and keyboardist Lee Pardini into their most universal, topical territory to date. This is a record about the modern world: the relationships that fill it, the politics that divide it, the small victories and big losses that give it shape. Taylor's writing is personal at points - the result of his recent engagement, which lends a sense of gravity and self-reflection to album highlights like "Time Flies Either Way" and "I Can't Love" - but it also zooms out, focusing not on the director himself, but on everything within the lens.

Nine Inch Nails - Bad Witch - The Null Corporation
Nine Inch Nails release their new album Bad Witch, completing the trilogy that began with 2016’s Not The Actual Events and 2017’s ADD VIOLENCE. Nine Inch Nails will launch COLD AND BLACK AND INFINITE NORTH AMERICA 2018 on September 13 with support The Jesus and Mary Chain. The band will bring their "musical, visual, emotional sensory onslaught,” as hailed by The New York Times, to some of the most iconic venues in the USA.

The Record Company - All Of This Life - Concord Records
The band continues with their signature gritty, rock & roll, blues sound on All Of This Life, their second album following up a Grammy-nominated and hit-filled debut. The new album incorporates the band's organic style, but provides a richer, full expanded sound using Boulevard Recording Studio and mixes by Mark Needham (The Revivalists, Blue October, Newsboys, Fleetwood Mac, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, etc...). This album is comprised of stories about moving through difficult times in life and coming through the other side as shared by their fanbase over the last two years of non-stop touring.

Panic! At The Disco - Pray For The Wicked - Fueled By Ramen
"After being away in New York for months doing Kinky Boots, I just wanted to hang out at home when I got back to LA. I was so revved up that I asked some friends to come over to my home studio to help me write about all the incredible things I've experienced the last couple of years," said Brendon Urie, Panic! At The Disco frontman. "Pray For The Wicked is my 'thank you' to our fans and the most fun I've ever had making album."

Manic Street Preachers - Resistance Is Futile - Shornday Limited
Resistance Is Futile, the band's 13th studio album, heralds a return to a classic Manic Street Preachers sound described by the band as "widescreen melancholia". The songs on the album are the first recorded in the band's new Door to the River studio (near Newport). Of their first new recordings in four years, the band said: "The main themes of 'Resistance is Futile' are memory and loss; forgotten history; confused reality and art as a hiding place and inspiration. It's obsessively melodic - in many ways referencing both the naive energy of 'Generation Terrorists' and the orchestral sweep of 'Everything Must Go'. After delay and difficulties getting started, the record has come together really quickly over the last few months through a surge of creativity and some old school hard work."

Soulwax - Essential - PIAS America
Soulwax are the first artists to ever submit an entire hour's worth of original material for a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. ''It felt like a challenge,'' the band explain, ''and something no-one had done. We loved the challenge of releasing a full record live on a radio show without people having any advance notice, and we always wanted to release it on DEEWEE after it was aired on Radio 1.'' Recorded in just under two weeks at Soulwax's DEEWEE studio in Gent, it comprises 12 tracks named ''Essential One'' through ''Essential Twelve'', each one based around the word essential.

Bebe Rexha - Expectations - Warner Bros
Chart topping singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha releases her highly anticipated debut album, Expectations via Warner Bros. Records. In addition to Bebe co-writing and co-producing every song on the album, EXPECTATIONS is also produced by Max Martin, Ali Payami, JUSSI, Jason Evigan, Louis Bell, The Stereotypes and Hit-Boy.

Bullet For My Valentine - Gravity

Bullet For My Valentine - GravityBullet For My Valentine - GravityBullet For My Valentine - Gravity - Spinefarm
There comes a point in every career of note, when it’s time to dig a trench in the turf; to define exactly who you are in a way that resonates in the broadest possible manner. For Bullet For My Valentine – now two decades deep into their story, one of rock and metal’s foremost names, a genuine success – that time is now. Produced and mixed by Carl Bown, ‘Gravity’ (the UK band’s sixth studio album, the follow-up to 2015’s ‘Venom’) sees the musicians delivering a body of work that looks set to add extra layers of excitement and meaning both to their own trajectory and to the genre per se. At a time when the international scene feels ready for a serious shot in the arm, ‘Gravity’ is an album of true craft and vision – an ambitious labour of love with the weight and the punch that the band’s extensive, ever-burgeoning fan-base has come to expect, a point made in style by lead single / video ‘Over It’, whilst adding enough in terms of atmosphere, melody and contemporary sheen to spin heads in wider circles. Backed up by an extensive worldwide touring plan that sees BFMV’s strongest ever line-up playing major shows and festivals for the whole of 2018 (and beyond), ‘Gravity’ already feels like an important album. Simply, this is frontman Matt Tuck and his fellow players thinking big and bold and refusing to compromise or back down.
The title is ‘Gravity’, but the music is set to rise like a rocket. Let the countdown commence…

The Milk Carton Kids’ fifth album , All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I Didn't Do arrives from ANTI- Records on June 29. The new project marks the first time that acoustic duo Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale have brought a band into studio with them. “We wanted to do something new,” Pattengale says. “We had been going around the country yet another time to do the duo show, going to the places we’d been before. There arose some sort of need for change.” “Musically we knew we were going to make the record with a bigger sonic palette,” says Ryan. “It was liberating to know we didn’t have to be able to carry every song with just our two guitars.” “Sometimes in singing, we’ll switch parts for a beat or a bar or a note,” Ryan says. “And things start to obscure what is the melody and what is the supporting part.” A third presence rises out of their combined voices. “There are only so many things you can do alone that al- low you to transcend your sense of self for even a short period,” Pattengale says. “I’m the lucky recipient of a life in which for hundreds of times, day after day, I get to spend an hour that is like speaking a language only two people know and doing it in a space with others who want to hear it.”

John Coltrane - Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album

John Coltrane - Both Directions At Once: The Lost AlbumJohn Coltrane - Both Directions At Once: The Lost AlbumJohn Coltrane - Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album - Verve
Unknown until 2004 and unheard until now, these recordings by the John ColtraneQuartet are, as Sonny Rollins says in the liner notes, “like finding a new room in the Great Pyramid.” With the discovery of the ¼”reference tapes that Coltrane took home with him after the recording session a session that was completely unknown and for which master tapes don’t exist an important chapter in the evolution of Coltrane’s music can now be heard for the first time. Featuring the Classic Quartet John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones and recorded at the end of a two week run at Birdland, the music on this album represents one of the most influential groups in music history both performing in a musical style it had perfected and reaching in new, exploratory directions that were to affect the trajectory of jazz from that point forward.

The Interrupters - Fight The Good Fight

The Interrupters - Fight The Good FightThe Interrupters - Fight The Good FightThe Interrupters - Fight The Good Fight - Epitaph
The Interrupters are an L.A. based four-piece bound by their rebel spirit and deep love of punk, rock, ska and 2 Tone. They make super high-energy rock -n-roll that’s equal parts catchy and confrontational. Their third album, Fight The Good Fight, was produced by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and released on his Hellcat imprint for Epitaph Records. The album features front-woman Aimee Interrupter, guitarist Kevin Bivona, bassist Justin Bivone and drummer Jesse Bivona, spitting out lyrics that take on matters as thorny as family, friendship, martial law and loyalty, while churning out bouncing rock-steady rhythms and snarly guitar riffs. The Interrupters have built their live act of unstoppable energy and a feeling of easy community that reflects their familial vibe. They had toured the world with the likes of Green Day and Rancid and played huge festivals from The Vans Warped tour to Coachella. “There is usually a dance party going on in the crowd, which we appreciate since we always have our own dance party happening on stage,” says guitarist Kevin Bivona. The Interrupters will be dancing their way to a town near you this summer on many festivals and tours including The Punk in Drublic Festivals, Back to The Beach Festival and the Main Stage on Vans Warped Tour.
